A one day introduction to Shibori resist dye techniques using Procion MX dyes.

Shibori is a form of Japanese resist dyeing, the word coming from the verb Shiboru, “to wring, squeeze, press.” It refers to the actual process and action of manipulating the cloth through various bindings that will resist the dye.

This workshop will focus on 3 different shibori techniques, exploring some of the many types of pattern and mark that can be created from each one. These various forms of resist create both beautiful organic marks and more structured/organised patterns.

The process of shibori allows great scope for individual exploration and experimentation.

Throughout the day you will discover that shibori can be a flexible, as well as a more formally structured, process. The outcomes will be different for each individual, making it a unique and exciting subject to explore.

At the end of the day you will take away a series of samples demonstrating the different techniques you have learnt, plus a silk scarf.

All of our workshops take place in our studio at 22 Arun Business Park, Shripney Road, Bognor Regis, PO22 9SX.
